Former president and now Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo has underscored the need to promote a harmonious relationship between the Philippines and China.
Arroyo made the statement in her speech after being elected as chair of the Association for Philippine-China Understanding (APCU).
“[O]ur country’s political environment is truly the time to work for the ‘strong and healthy relations between the Philippines and China that promotes peace, harmony and prosperity among their peoples’ that APCU’s vision declares,” she said.
The APCU, a recognized and accredited people-to-people organization in China, was co-founded by Arroyo in the early 1970s.
The organization played a vital role in the establishment of the Philippine diplomatic relations with China.

Chairperson – Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo; Vice Chairman – Jesus Cham; President – Gabriel Lopez; External Vice President – Rachy Cuna; Internal Vice President – Raul Lambino; Treasurer – Letty Timbol; Executive Director – Jose “Pete” Arce, Jr.
The new APCU Board of Trustees also affirmed last year’s designation of FCHCSI President Peter Tiu Lavina as Head of APCU Davao/Mindanao.
APCU, which is promoting people-to-people diplomacy and good relations with China, will send a delegation to the ASEAN-China Youth Exchange Festival in Guandong, China on July 24-28, and in the ASEAN-China People-to-People Conference in Siem Reap, Cambodia on August 6-9.
